Experience

  • Wide and extensive “hands on” commercial experience including infrastructure and construction projects and wider contractual/commercial disputes.

I graduated with an Honours Degree in Quantity Surveying in 1997. Having gained experience in a number of companies I established my own construction company in 2000.

During the subsequent fifteen years as Managing Director I grew the company to a position where it employed over 75 people and delivered many prestigious contracts throughout the UK and Ireland.

The expansion of the company involved a diverse variety of construction contracts and sectors including residential, civil engineering, industrial, commercial and leisure projects.

I have extensive personal experience of delivering major residential schemes, landmark city centre fit outs, government contracts hotels and sports facilities. I have done so both as the employer of personnel and of sub contractors across the full range of activities and disciplines and the principal sub contractor to multinational companies.

My extensive “hands on” experience in that environment has left me:

  • able to understand and deal with the legal issues which arise from complicated business relationships and contract delivery methods – and with the real world disputes which arise therefrom including contractual, insurance and NHBC disputes;
  • able to understand the needs and perspective of, and to put myself in the shoes of, all those embroiled in such disputes, including employers, employees, clients, business managers, customers, government bodies, goods and service providers and investors; and
  • the technical knowledge and experience to understand and assist with the most complex of disputes arising from property transactions and engineering/construction projects including allegations of professional negligence arising from such Projects and Valuations/Final Account disputes (including complaints regarding defects).

I have the will and skill to create the correct and conductive environment in which a deal can be done. Within that environment I have the flexibility, understanding and determination to ensure that whatever possible outcomes are on a win win basis. I work on the belief and the expectation that with the application of respect, imagination and good will, a sensible deal is achievable in the majority of cases.
